Daily our lives are filled with physical, chemical and emotional stresses. Some stresses can be good, but some can be bad. Here are some examples:
Physical- A good Physical stress might be exercise. Especially when done properly and consistently to strengthen and improve the structure and function of the human body. However, exercise when not done properly and consistently, can be a bad stress, and can break down and destroy the natural structure and function of the human body.
Chemical- Eating healthy, vitamin and nutrient dense foods like vegetables and fruit are a great example of a good chemical stress for our bodies. A bad chemical stress might be consuming refined sugar, which in certain quantities has been scientifically proven to decrease our immune system function.
Emotional- Often when most of us hear the word “stress”, we immediately think of emotional stress. When we are Emotionally stressed there is an opportunity for us to grow, discover compassion, and learn about new depths of ourselves. Almost any perceivably “good” or “bad” emotional stress can be turned into something positive for us in the long term.
Anytime a physical, chemical, or emotional stress is too much, healing is required. Healing is always an opportunity for growth. But, what truly determines the difference between perceivably “good” and “bad” stresses, differs from one person to the next. For example a healthy physical stress for one person may be a harmful stress for another person. The essential part is the preparation we personally do for the physical, chemical and emotional stresses that we are faced with every day.
