About Empower Therapy

Healthy form of the human body, results in healthy function. Balance is key to having a healthy form. Balance on a physical, chemical and emotional level is achieved by our bodies natural ability to regulate itself. Our bodies have the innate ability to heal themselves, when interference is removed.

Fascia is tough, connective tissue that spreads throughout the body in a three-dimensional web from head to toe without interruption. Investing in every muscle, bone, nerve, blood vessel and organ of the the body, right down to a cellular level. Fascia at the cellular level creates the interstitial spaces between each cell, and has extremely important functions of support, protection, separation, cellular respiration, elimination, nutrition, metabolism, fluid circulation and lymphatic flow. In other words, fascia is the immediate environment of every cell of the human body. Restrictions within this system can cause any number of symptoms and diseases. For example, having fascial restrictions around a nerve or the nervous system as a whole could cause something as simple as numbness, or worse yet, decrease neurochemical communication within the body. Healthy form and function of this system allows our bodies to express health. Unhealthy form and function literally twists and chokes the bodies ability to express health Physically, Chemically and Emotionally.

The goal of Empower Massage Therapy is to remove imbalances and restrictions within the fascial system to allow your body to have healthy form and function. Empowering it to be Healthy and heal itself.

About Me

David Custer, RMT

David Custer - Empower Therapy

My journey in Massage Therapy began even before I was a teenager. My mother was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease when I was 12 years old. Her body would go into what she would refer to as “non function”. Where she literally could not move a muscle in her entire body. I distinctly remember one time when she was telling me about being in non function, and her nose became itchy. She said “You don’t realize how easy it is to just scratch your nose, until you can’t do it. I couldn’t move my arm to scratch it for myself. I couldn’t turn my head to rub it against the pillow behind my head. I couldn’t even so much as move my lips to ask you to scratch it for me.” Hearing this as a 12 year old made me feel very upset for my mom, and prompted me to try to help her the next time when she went into non function. I developed a series of massage techniques that included stretching, manipulation, rolling, pushing, pulling, and even trying to make her laugh. Something I discovered that was uncontrollable for her, even when she was in non function. We were able to sometimes bring her out of non function, and sometimes able to prevent it from happening at all. Thus began my career, and then I took professional training.

My Massage Therapy training came from the Foothill College of Massage Therapy. I graduated from their 2200 hour program in 2002 and have been practicing professionally ever since. Over the past decade I have trained in Myofascial Release, CranioSacral Therapy, Shiatsu, Myofascial Cupping, Reflexology, Aromatherapy, and various other Massage and Bodywork modalities. In addition to being a Massage Therapist I am a Fitness Instructor, specializing in Cycling training.

Over the past 12 years I have been studying the human body. It has become one of my greatest interests. The human body is such an amazing machine when given the correct environment to express itself. My interest lies in educating and empowering people to take care of their bodies.

In my spare time I like to do almost everything outdoors! Hiking, biking, running, mountaineering, snowboarding, splitboarding, xc skiing, kayaking, surfing, and climbing (rock and ice). I also enjoy painting, yoga, cooking, and a good book (non fiction).
